Date Night at dog friendly Cypress Inn owned by Doris Day

Today, a friend and I met for a glass of wine at the end of the day at the Cypress Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea. In the main bar area where dinner is also served, your pooch is part of the "party of 4". Talk about getting to know each other, no, not the humans, but their entourage, the felines. While taking photos, I was introduced to each one by name, age, and disposition. Disposition? What it would take for the pooch to pose for the camera. At my home, it would depend on the treat. Here, "kissy sounds" would do it.

Although I'm making a little fun here, it is wonderful that you can take "man's best friend" out to dinner. Single diners felt totally comfortable with their "date". Here there was no one sitting alone. And everyone was talking to everyone else, their 4-legged companions the catalyst. It looked like many friendships were formed by humans too.

Although we did not see Doris Day, we did see memorabilia around the lobby area reminding us of who the owner is. And if you come to Carmel, bring your pooch to hobnob, "to drink familiarly with another". Yes, the hotel supplies water dishes at no charge.

Boy, it seems to me that that could be so dangerous.  What happens when the steak is served? And what happens when two dogs don't like each other? And what about all of the shedding dogs? Thanks for sharing, but it's a very strange and unique concept.

Here, dogs tend to be "socialized". No junk yard dogs that I've seen. Amazing how well behaved they are. It's quite the thing to walk your pooch along Carmel's streets during the day. They also run free on Carmel Beach, playing with each other. Yes, it's a terrific concept. And here it works. Shedding? They are groomed. We even have stores dedicated to dogs including cute outfits. I'm not making fun here. There are millions of dogs that are close family members, and here is a place you can take them and enjoy their interaction.

Taking your dog on vacation is big business, according to a Tripadvisor article, 29.5 million Americans travel with them 50 miles and more.

Here's a terrific article: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10055/1034610-37.stm

 on Carmel's dog friendliness.

I am actually making a real estate point here as well: don't underestimate the love that people have for their pets. And what they are willing to spend to make them part of their everyday life.
