Carmel Beach going to the dogs, especially at sunset

If you live in Carmel-by-the-Sea, chances are you have a dog. And what do you do at the end of the day when you come home?

And if you are smart and want to make friends with other dog owners, you better take treats along. Not for the people, but for the dogs!

Dogs remember which humans bring the GOOD TREATS to the beach. Since dogs run OFF LEASH here, the dogs head right to WHERE THE GOOD TREATS ARE.

Even though my dogs are not with me on this trip, I still headed down to the beach with SOPHIE, the Jack Russel, and her human, my friend Sharon, manager of the Lobos Lodge where I am staying.

Here we met up with Peter and his dog "Mojo". Peter has been around forever, doling out GREAT TREATS. Sophie certainly had no trouble spotting him and asking for a handout!

Doggie friendly Carmel Beach

While Sharon, Peter and I discussed the ways of Carmel doggiedom, a lady come up to our group who evidently had even BETTER TREATS. Check out these dogs! She certainly had everyone's attention!Doggie treats on Carmel beach

After watching all the dogs get treats, Sharon and I decided to go back to the Lobos Lodge to have a "human" treat, a glass of wine. Here is what the grounds looked like just after sunset. Beautiful, isn't it?

I love your pictures. My dog is very treat driven. He will be friends with anyone that has food. He's a 110 pound rottie and still growing.

Debbie: He would LOVE Carmel beach. Everyone becomes instant friends, just carry treats.

It looks like a great place to make friends, especially when you bring lots of treats.

Joe: That's the time to meet the residents, just take your pooch and goodies.

Barbara: It's such fun to watch dogs race around and interact in that environment. People too (without the racing around, of course.)
